Assessing Individual
Needs: Eating Disorder Evaluation InterviewThe main goal of a comprehensive evaluation is to obtain a complete diagnosis, look at options for psychotherapy, evaluate for medications targeting the symptoms of the eating disorder, screen for interfering problems such as anxiety or depression, and provide a treatment plan tailored for each individual. At Webster Wellness Professionals, we utilize careful, evidence-based diagnostic procedures, with a team of experienced eating disorder physicians, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and dietitians to determine the best eating disorder treatment program.
In some cases, this comprehensive evaluation for eating disorder treatment can be eliminated. For example, if an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan have been determined by another practitioner or a primary care physician, we can use this evaluation as a basis for the individual’s treatment at our eating disorder and weight control center. However, if a person is being treated for the first time or the clinical picture is complicated with additional psychiatric problems or other complex issues, our practitioners would recommend a comprehensive evaluation at our eating disorder and weight control center to determine the best and most effective treatment plan.
a psychiatrist will evaluate and stage the eating disorder with particular attention to co-morbid conditions, safety and possible use of medication. Our psychiatrist will advise you regarding options for psychotherapy, medication for the symptoms of the eating disorder and screen for interfering problems such as anxiety or depression. This evaluation is the best choice if you are not certain if you are ready for outpatient treatment, when anxiety or depression present significant problems or if you have not yet been evaluated by a psychiatrist.
This assessment is the best first step if you have been referred by your primary care doctor or psychiatrist for psychotherapy of your eating disorder or you are interested in beginning specialized individual psychotherapy, family treatment or group treatment.
The next step in our comprehensive evaluation for eating disorder treatment is the collecting of data using a variety of standardized instruments. These evaluation procedures and instruments are centered around evidence-based diagnostics that help our evaluators to obtain a clear picture of each individual’s needs. Several of the scientific data collection methods and instruments that we utilize during this stage of our evaluation include:
The final stage in our comprehensive evaluation for eating disorder treatment is a feedback session. During this feedback session, our evaluators will present a summary of the diagnostic impressions and present treatment alternatives to both the individual and any significant others. The goal of this session is to determine a treatment solution on which all stakeholders agree. Our evaluators use evidence-based treatment methods for eating disorder and weight control treatment in their recommended programs. These eating disorder treatment options include Maudsley family-based therapy with adolescents, individual psychotherapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and therapy groups. After an ideal treatment program is developed in this feedback session, our evaluators will develop a detailed report and summary, which is provided to the patient and any other professionals with whom the patient requests such as the primary care physician or another healthcare practitioner.
