How do I know if I have binge eating disorder?

In Western cultures, we do make exceptions as to times when it is acceptable to eat multiple plates of food. For example, we commonly accept indulging on holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter when you may have several helpings or a few extra pieces of desert. In addition, for other special occasions, including birthday parties, you may decide to eat two or three cupcakes instead of one. This type of occasional overeating is typically normal for the average person. However, for those who suffer from binge eating disorder (BED), binge episodes, such as the ones described above occur on a regular basis, sometimes even up to multiple times per day. In addition, binge eating can be accompanied by overwhelming feelings of shame or guilt. If you think you may suffer from compulsive eating, or binge eating disorder, contact our treatment team at Webster Wellness Professionals to learn about binge eating disorder treatment methods available at our St. Louis eating disorder treatment center.
